We also drove up to Zephryhills on Saturday the 15th to fix a dish that we installed in February. The outdoor transmitting unit failed. This is the first hardware failure we have experienced, so I suppose it isn't a big deal. Of course it was to our customer since he was off line for while.
We had several inquiries on TracStar in motion sat tv systems from our website, so it looks like that is going to be a big seller as we go forward.
Our local golf group had a best ball scramble out at the local country club. My team took second place. Not bad, but rather embarrassing that four of us managed to shoot a 2 over par. You would think that four guys would be able to at least make par, but it wasn't to be. We did have a lot of fun and look forward to next years scramble.
Early in the winter season, our group was driving all the way to Spring Hill to play golf. The local CC had raised their rate to $40 and we thought that was a bit much. Golf in South Florida is never cheap in the winter, but this is not a $40 course. After we spent about a month driving 40 miles to play, the local club decided that since we often fielded up to 10 foursomes, the perhaps our last year rate of $25 a head would work after all. I guess the loss of up to $1000 a week got their attention!
We left our lot at the Big O on March 21st heading for the Tampa Bay area. Our niece was getting married on the 22nd, so we drove the back roads to the Encore Park just east of Lazy Days. This is our park of choice when we go to Tampa because we can stay there for $11 a night. We booked in for a week and then drove over to Libby's brother's house which is only about 10 minutes away. It seemed to be a typical "home of the bride" the day before a wedding. Lots of things going on and several of us visitors coming in. We didn't stay too long in order not to slow down the wedding preparations.
On Saturday, the 22nd, we went to the Performing Arts Center in downtown Tampa for the wedding. It was very nice and we had a great time.
The 22nd was also our youngest son's birthday, but he is in Telluride, CO so we didn't get to celebrate with him. Our daughter turned 30 on the 25th, so we did get to give her a hard time. We stayed in the Tampa/St. Pete area for a week, spoiling the three grandkids with sugar and then leaving after they got all hyped up.
Monday was maintenance day. We took the rig to Lazy Days for a transmission fluid and filter change. The last time we had this done was in Rock Springs, WY in May of 2001. It cost us about $160 to get it done there. Lazy Days charged us $281 to do this service but we had a $50 gift certificate, so it wound up costing us $231. Next time, I do it myself!
We pulled out of Tampa on Friday, the 28th and headed north and west. We pulled into the Tallahasee East KOA since it is convenient and is exactly where we leave the red roads and pick up I-10 for our travels west. The owner of the park was complaining about slow dial up internet when we registered, so I sold him a DirecWay 2 way internet satellite system. That changed our travel plans as I couldn't get a system for him until Monday. Instead of staying one night, we spent 5 days at that KOA. Libby and I installed his system on Monday and we stayed through Wednesday morning just to make sure everything was ok.
It was good to get back on the road after spending 5 months in Florida. This lifestyle is so flexible. We can stay or we can go, it really just depends on what we choose to do. Next winter, we won't be in FL until probably December and depending on what we do in the summer, we may only be there for three months or so. By the way, if any of you are looking for a nice waterfront lot with lake access in Okeechobee for the months of Octobe and November, let us know . We have a nice one for rent!
